Dominique Galli appointed interim executive director of the IUPUI Center for Research and Learning
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS -- Dominique Galli, assistant vice chancellor for research and associate professor of biomedical and applied sciences at the IU School of Dentistry at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, has been appointed interim executive director of IUPUI’s Center for Research and Learning, Vice Chancellor for Research Kody Varahramyan announced.
Galli, who begins her new role Aug. 1, will succeed Richard Ward, who is retiring this summer after 32 years of service as an administrator and faculty member at IUPUI.
The Center for Research and Learning is dedicated to serving students through a series of undergraduate research programs offering the opportunity to carry out innovative research, scholarship and creative activity with faculty mentors through internally and externally funded programs. These programs engage students in research experiences, providing effective pathways for lifelong active learning, scholarship and professional development.
“We are very grateful to Dr. Ward for his dedicated service as the center’s director and for his invaluable guidance of undergraduate research experience programs at IUPUI,” Varahramyan said. “I am also pleased Dr. Galli has accepted to support these efforts in this important role.”
Galli has been involved with the center since 2006, when she joined its advisory board, serving until 2012. Her impressive work with the center includes co-drafting the campus-wide expansion of the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Institute, which has become one of the center’s most prominent programs, and serving as a member of the leadership team that implemented an organizational restructuring of the center. Galli has intimate knowledge of undergraduate research and has compiled data on all IUPUI undergraduate research programs in an effort to increase their visibility, and she also drafted recommendations for coordination of efforts between these programs.
“I am honored to serve in this interim role,” Galli said. “The Center for Research and Learning plays a vital role in a number of campus initiatives and helps expose and engage students in a variety of experiences, which allows them to better understand how research is an important component of higher education and extends beyond the natural sciences into many disciplines."
Galli earned her M.S. in biology and Ph.D. in microbiology at Ludwig Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany.
