More than 300 future physicians at Indiana University School of Medicine will learn where they will take the next step in their medical education journey during the fun-filled and highly anticipated Match Day ceremony on Friday, March 16. Match Day is celebrated annually at medical schools across the country and involves the simultaneous opening of envelopes unveiling the institution to which graduating medical students have “matched” for their residency training.

Throughout the vigorous matching process, fourth-year medical students apply and interview with desired residency programs in their selected specialty. The results of the matching process are kept under wraps until the official unveiling, which takes place precisely at noon. Last year, the IU School of Medicine Class of 2017 accepted residency positions in 41 states plus the District of Columbia. Many IU School of Medicine students match at programs in Indiana, ultimately improving health care for all Hoosiers.

Graduating medical students and faculty will be available to discuss the matching process, as well as the emotion and anticipation of the day, beginning at 9 am. Doors open to the public at 11 am with the official unveiling of Match results taking place at noon. Parking is available in the Vermont Street Parking Garage.
